Roy Meachum

My name is Roy Meachum. I am a journalist and I worked for the Washington Post, Washington Star; I have written in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, and other papers. I have been to Cairo for a couple of years, and coming to Turkey I expected to be able to make some comparisons but there is none. The people here are just astonishing: the way they have energy, the way they think, the way they do things. A very good example, of course, is the schools we have seen here, and the hospitals,… It is an incredible effort by one is in essence of a private organization. When people speak of having the future in their hands, I think that can be said of this remarkable group. The people we have seen are very bright, above all of course that famous hospitality that I expected in a Muslim nation. To this degree; no one can expect that. Aside from the sightseeing, which I do not do well, very few journalists do it well; the experiences have been absolutely fantastic, and I am very grateful for the opportunity.
