Turkih scholar and writer Fethullah Gulen criticized pro-government media outlets for making up false stories while trying to justify slanderous remarks of senior officials. Gulen insisted that there is no place to lies in the heart and mind of true believer. Referring to false stories published in the pro-government press, Gülen stated that those who spread these lies through the media are committing more serious sins because false stories reach much wider audience, which leads to circulation and further spread of lies in society. Gülen, who has inspired a worldwide religious network referred to as ‘Hizmet movement, which defends peace and tolerance through dialogue and education, has been target of a government-sponsored smear campaign that is claimed to be harsher than the ones seen in past military coup periods.
