The New York Times editorial board published an article titled ‘Let Mr. Erdogan Fight His Own Battles’, which called PM’s demand to extradite Gulen ‘a crass and cynical attempt to exploit the law’ and sacrifice ‘Turkey’s alliance with the United States for political payback’. The article also mentioned about transformation of relationships between Erdogan and Fethullah Gulen from being close political allies with same ideas and aims to a ‘bitter power struggle’ initiated by Erdogan since the last December. So far, Obama administration refused to issue any public statements regarding the issue, what can cause further unnecessary tensions in the American-Turkish relationships.
