Gunal Kursun: TV Channels Removals Violate Law

Today’s Zaman columnist Gunal Kursun, said TV channels removal from online TV streaming services violates law.

In his weekly article, Kurşun emphasized that according to penal procedures, public prosecutors are not allowed to order TV platforms to remove stations. “The prosecutor followed a pattern that legitimizes criminalizing dissent.” he said.

Kurşun said, order by the prosecutor has no logic, but its motivation is putting a limitation on watching critical TV stations. “The next step might be imprisoning opposition leaders, closing down human rights associations, seizing all tools of opposition or declaring a curfew, but in any case, all these attempts will have an effect on Nov. 1.” Kurşun said.

Last month Digiturk, Tivibu and Turkcell TV+, online TV streaming services, has decided to stop the broadcast of TV channels Bugün TV, Kanaltürk, Shaber and Samanyolu, which are known for their critical stance with regard to the government.
