My name is Ruth Takushi. I teach at Northern Virginia Community College. I teach English as a Second Language. Coming to Turkey, this is my first time in this part of the world, I didn’t know what to expect. My students were telling me how friendly the people were, how great the food was. I was amazed that how kind everyone was to us, how well taken care of we were. I was also amazed that how we took care of each other in this group. I really enjoyed visiting all the historical places but really the high schools, colleges and universities and coming to this one and especially talking to an English teacher, and finding out about your English programs here. I am amazed that how well everyone speaks English here, and how quickly they learn it according to your teacher. I can’t believe that you teach English grammar in six weeks. That is astonishing to me; and yet in eight months going from beginning level all the way to the academic level English is just amazing. You should come to United States and show us how you do it, as we do have so much to learn from you. Our programs in the US, the English programs, a lot of it is just about making money, and just pumping people through the system. It has been nice for me to see that your philosophy of teaching and philosophy of education is the same as of your faith and your philosophy of life.
